Effective August 3, 2026, through legislative approval of HJR 1091, Oklahoma's licensure requirements for landscape architects now align with the CLARB Uniform Licensure Standard for Landscape Architecture. Oklahoma is the 10th CLARB member board to adopt the standard, joining a growing number of jurisdictions working toward greater consistency in licensure nationwide.
"Aligning with the CLARB Uniform Standard gives Oklahomans a clearer, more consistent path to licensure while keeping our focus where it belongs: protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public," said Leslie Hanska, the executive director of the Oklahoma Board of Governors of Architects, Landscape Architects and Licensed Interior Designers. "This update reflects where the profession is headed nationally, and it makes it easier for qualified landscape architects to practice across state lines."
The Oklahoma board amended its landscape architecture rules to modernize licensure requirements and reflect nationally recognized best practices. The revisions establish consistency with other jurisdictions, reduce unnecessary barriers to licensure by adopting the national two-year experience standard for qualified applicants, and improve licensure mobility and reciprocity. The changes also update examination and licensure provisions to reflect CLARB's current administration of the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.), while maintaining the board's commitment to public protection.
