About

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is the national professional association representing more than 15,000 landscape architects in the United States. Since its founding in 1899, ASLA has been committed to advancing the practice, education and awareness of landscape architecture as an essential profession that shapes the built and natural environment.

ASLA provides advocacy, professional development and networking opportunities for its members — promoting policies that support sustainable, resilient and equitable design. The organization also works to increase public understanding of the vital role landscape architects play in creating safe, functional and beautiful outdoor spaces.

Mission

ASLA’s mission is to empower members to design a sustainable and equitable world through landscape architecture. The organization champions policies and practices that promote the stewardship of natural and cultural resources, innovation in landscape architecture, and the well-being of communities.

ASLA actively supports licensure and professional standards to ensure that landscape architects are recognized as critical contributors to public health, safety and welfare. Through collaboration with policymakers, industry partners and academic institutions, ASLA continues to advance the profession and its impact on the built environment. Learn more about ASLA.

Areas of Collaboration

CLARB and ASLA work closely to defend landscape architectural licensure in the public’s interest and to strengthen licensure laws across the United States. Together, we support our respective members in adopting the Uniform Licensure Standard for Landscape Architects, promoting consistency, mobility, and accessibility in licensure. We host joint events, develop shared resources and support each other in the development of professional standards for landscape architecture practice.

Additionally, CLARB and ASLA collaborate through the Presidents Council, an informal working group that also includes CSLA, CELA, LAAB and LAF. The Presidents Council brings together staff and volunteer leaders from these organizations to address shared challenges, advocate for strong professional standards and advance initiatives that benefit the landscape architecture profession across the United States, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands and Canada.
