Removing barriers and increasing access

We believe that all qualified candidates should have a clear, attainable path to becoming licensed. That means upholding rigorous, fair and defensible standards while also working to reduce unnecessary barriers and supporting multiple pathways to licensure.

Find your unique path

Most candidates first earn a degree in landscape architecture in the U.S. or Canada, and then go on to gain experience under the supervision of a licensed landscape architect. But it's important to know these may not be the only pathways to licensure available to you in your jurisdiction.

CLARB supports additional pathways to licensure that maintain rigorous standards. If you have a question about your education or experience qualifications, first refer to your jurisdiction's licensure requirements, then contact our Support Team for personalized guidance about your path to licensure.

International qualifications

International applicants can pursue CLARB Certification, which provides a pathway to licensure. This includes evaluating education and experience gained outside the United States and Canada.

Pathways for educators

Our specialized criteria recognize qualified teaching as professional experience that meets the rigorous standards required for CLARB Certification (and licensure in participating jurisdictions).
