The Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.) is available through online proctoring in all jurisdictions. With online proctoring, a live proctor monitors your exam through video using PSI's secure platform. This option is available to all candidates with a private testing space, stable internet connection and a computer that meets the requirements.
Scheduling your exam
- You can schedule your appointment anytime, anywhere during the exam administration period.
- Online proctoring is available 24 hours a day.
- When selecting your time, pay careful attention to time zone and AM/PM choices.
- To reduce the chance of connectivity issues, choose a time when internet usage is typically lower.
- You can switch between in-person appointment and online proctoring, up to 48 hours in advance.
- Make changes through PSI.
Before exam day
- Admin rights: Ensure you have administrator rights on your computer so that you can download and install necessary software.
- Browser: Install Google Chrome browser.
- System check: Perform a system compatibility check following the instructions sent by email from PSI. Successful completion of the system compatibility check does not guarantee system compliance. Learn more about closing computer applications.

- Webcam: Ensure your camera can focus on your government-issued photo identification. External cameras work best.
- Microphone: Test that your microphone works properly.
- Private environment: Your testing space should be private, quiet and free of distractions.
- Clean desk: Clear all items from your desk.
- Check surfaces: Any whiteboards or flipcharts must be free of any marks.
- Review materials:
- Download and read the L.A.R.E. Orientation Guide, the definitive resource that will guide you through every aspect of your exam journey. It is required reading for all candidates.
- Watch videos and download guides from PSI's Test Taker Resources.
- Check out practice exams and other resources from CLARB.
- Upload ID in advance: Optional but strongly recommended to streamline check-in.
- Understand how breaks work:
- Always finalize answers before requesting a break.
- You cannot return to viewed questions after a break.
- Request breaks via chat with your proctor.
- Once approved, confirm your break by using the Take a Break button on the exam.
- Accommodations: If you've been approved for accommodations, you may need to test in person at a PSI Testing Center. Contact CLARB directly to discuss your specific requirements.
Exam day
- Double check requirements: Ensure your testing environment and computer system meet all requirements explained above.
- Restart your computer: Ensure all background programs are closed and any pending system updates have been completed.
- Have ready:
- Valid government-issued photo ID.
- Cell phone should be in the room but out of reach should your proctor need to contact you during your exam.
- Single display: Only one monitor/screen is permitted.
- Webcam: Ensure your camera can focus on your government-issued photo identification. External cameras work best.
- Microphone: Test that your microphone works properly.
- Early login: Your exam will be available 30 minutes before your scheduled time. We recommend launching your exam 30 minutes early to allow ample time for the check-in and security process.
- Launch your exam:
- Log in to your account.
- Select "Launch My Exam."
- Choose the "Manage" tab.
- Select your exam.
- Click "Launch."
Technical support
If you lose your internet connection during the exam:
- The system will automatically attempt to reconnect
- If connection issues persist, you may not be permitted to continue the exam
If you experience issues during your exam, reach out for help.
- Contact your proctor: Use the exam's chat feature.
- Call PSI: If you cannot reach your proctor via chat, call 1-844-267-1017.
- Open a support ticket: Email clarb.support@psionline.com and include info@clarb.org in all correspondence. Our Support Team may be able to help with resolving your issue and/or rescheduling your exam if necessary.
