About

The Landscape Architecture Accreditation Council (LAAC) is responsible for accrediting professional undergraduate and graduate degree programs in landscape architecture across Canada. LAAC oversees the full accreditation process, including appointing and training accreditation teams, reviewing university reports, and evaluating programs to ensure they meet rigorous educational standards. The Council also maintains relationships with other accrediting bodies, such as the American Society of Landscape Architects’ Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB), to promote consistency and alignment of standards across North America.

Mission

LAAC’s mission is to uphold and advance the quality of professional education in landscape architecture by ensuring accredited programs meet high standards that prepare graduates for meaningful practice and licensure.

Why Accreditation Matters

Accreditation plays a vital role in shaping the future of the landscape architecture profession by:

  • Ensuring that programs provide a strong foundation in design, planning, and environmental stewardship
  • Aligning academic outcomes with licensure and regulatory expectations
  • Strengthening the credibility and career readiness of graduates

Through its accreditation efforts, LAAC reinforces the connection between education and professional practice, ensuring future practitioners are prepared to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public and the environment. View accredited programs.

Areas of Collaboration

CLARB recognizes programs accredited by LAAC as equivalent to those accredited by LAAB in the United States. By supporting mutual recognition of accreditation standards, CLARB and LAAC help facilitate licensure and professional mobility across borders, advancing consistent and defensible pathways to practice throughout North America.

Help make it possible

Through volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, you can support CLARB's mission to design and promote landscape architectural standards across the United States, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands and Canada.
