About
The Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) is the official accrediting body for professional landscape architecture degree programs in the United States. Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), LAAB ensures that landscape architecture programs meet high academic and professional standards, preparing students for successful careers in the field.
Mission
LAAB’s mission is to evaluate, recognize and promote quality education in landscape architecture. By setting rigorous accreditation standards, LAAB helps maintain consistency and excellence in academic programs, ensuring that graduates possess the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to contribute effectively to the profession.
Accreditation by LAAB is a mark of quality that assures students, educators, employers and the public that a program meets or exceeds established educational standards. LAAB evaluates degree programs based on curriculum, faculty qualifications, student outcomes and institutional support to foster continuous improvement in landscape architecture education.
Why Accreditation Matters
Accreditation plays a critical role in advancing the profession of landscape architecture by:
- Ensuring educational programs provide a comprehensive foundation in design, planning and environmental stewardship.
- Supporting professional licensure by aligning curriculum requirements with regulatory expectations.
- Enhancing career opportunities for graduates by affirming the credibility and quality of accredited programs.
Through its accreditation process, LAAB strengthens the connection between education and professional practice, helping to prepare future landscape architects to protect public health, safety and welfare. [View accredited programs button]
Areas of Collaboration
CLARB and LAAB work together to develop, review and refine LAAB’s Accreditation Standards, ensuring that landscape architecture education aligns with the evolving needs of the profession. CLARB also appoints a representative to serve on the LAAB Board of Directors, contributing expertise on licensure and regulatory perspectives.
Additionally, CLARB and LAAB collaborate through the Presidents Council, an informal working group that also includes ASLA, CELA, CSLA and LAF. This group brings together staff and volunteer leaders to address shared challenges, uphold strong professional standards and advance initiatives that support the landscape architecture profession across the United States, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands and Canada.
