About
The Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LA CES) is a collaborative program established by six leading landscape architecture organizations: the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA), Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA), Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB), Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) and Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF).
LA CES establishes, maintains and enforces standards for evaluating professional development and continuing education programs for landscape architects. As continuing education becomes increasingly essential — for staying current, advancing skills and meeting licensure renewal requirements — LA CES helps landscape architects identify courses that are credible, relevant and offered by providers with established quality assurance processes.
Mission
The mission of LA CES is to assure landscape architects and licensing boards that courses offered by LA CES-approved providers meet consistent and rigorous quality standards. Only providers that satisfy LA CES criteria are eligible to register courses, which cover a broad range of subject matter. Courses that meet health, safety and welfare (HSW) standards are clearly identified to support compliance with jurisdictional requirements.
Areas of collaboration
As a founding partner, CLARB ensures the regulatory perspective is reflected in the development and oversight of LA CES standards. CLARB appoints volunteers to the Administrative, Application Review and Monitoring Committees — helping uphold the integrity, consistency and accountability of the system. Through this partnership, CLARB supports high-quality continuing education that reinforces professional competency and public protection.
