About

The Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ) is the leading authority on certifying interior design professionals. CIDQ establishes and upholds standards that ensure qualified interior designers have the knowledge and skills to protect public health, safety and welfare. The organization oversees the NCIDQ Examination, a nationally recognized credential that distinguishes competent interior designers and facilitates professional mobility across jurisdictions.

Mission

CIDQ’s mission is to advance the value and credibility of the interior design profession by developing and administering a rigorous, independent certification process. By working closely with regulatory boards, industry leaders and practitioners, CIDQ ensures that interior designers meet essential competency standards to create safe, functional and sustainable interior environments.

Areas of Collaboration

CLARB and CIDQ collaborate through multiple initiatives to support responsible licensure, promote regulatory best practices, and defend the public’s interest:

  • Through the Interorganizational Council on Regulation (ICOR), CLARB and CIDQ work alongside other regulatory organizations to harmonize policies, streamline licensure processes and reduce administrative barriers across design professions. This collaboration ensures consistent, competency-based licensure standards that support professional mobility while maintaining strong public protection.
  • CLARB and CIDQ also work closely together to support our shared member boards, providing guidance and resources to help navigate evolving licensure challenges, strengthen regulatory laws, and ensure that licensing remains accessible, transparent and aligned with public safety priorities.
