About
The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) is a global network dedicated to advancing landscape architecture education, research and scholarship. CELA connects educators, researchers and students with the goal of fostering academic excellence, supporting innovation in teaching and practice, and shaping the future of the profession.
For over 100 years, CELA has served as the premier academic organization for landscape architecture programs worldwide. The organization provides a platform for educators and researchers to collaborate, share knowledge and promote the development of rigorous, forward-thinking curricula that prepare students to address the evolving challenges of the built and natural environments.
Mission
CELA’s mission is to support and advance landscape architecture education, research and outreach. By facilitating collaboration between universities, faculty, students and industry leaders, CELA ensures that academic programs remain relevant, innovative and aligned with the needs of both the profession and society.
CELA also plays a key role in fostering global conversations on the future of landscape architecture, hosting annual conferences, publishing cutting-edge research and providing valuable resources to educators. Through these efforts, CELA helps strengthen the foundation of landscape architecture education and contributes to the profession’s long-term growth and impact.
Areas of Collaboration
CLARB and CELA partner to create programs and pathways to advance licensure among landscape architecture academic practitioners (faculty) and students. CLARB and CELA also collaborate through the Presidents Council, an informal working group that also includes ASLA, CSLA, LAAB and LAF. This group brings together staff and volunteer leaders to address shared challenges, uphold strong professional standards and advance initiatives that support the landscape architecture profession across the United States, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands and Canada.
