About
The Black Landscape Architects Network (BlackLAN) has been building a network of Black landscape architects internationally since 2010. In 2020, BlackLAN incorporated as a nonprofit organization to expand the community network, provide scholarships and mentor students and emerging professionals.
BlackLAN supports Black landscape architecture students and professionals through:
- Education by supporting Black landscape architecture students and emerging professionals through scholarship and grants, ensuring career retention and advancement within the profession.
- Community by building a network of committed Black landscape architecture students and professionals in all phases of their careers.
- Service by ensuring that all Black landscape architects are at the table, are heard and are decision-makers.
Mission
CLARB is proud to support BlackLAN’s mission to increase the visibility, support the interests and foster the impact of Black practitioners in landscape architecture.
Areas of Collaboration
CLARB and BlackLAN collaborate on initiatives that remove barriers to licensure and support the success of Black students and professionals in landscape architecture. BlackLAN representatives participated in the development of the Exam Determinants of Success survey, a research study that aims to better understand the methods and techniques that best prepare candidates for success on the exam. We have committed to expanding support of BlackLAN’s efforts to increase the visibility, support the interests and foster the impact of Black practitioners in landscape architecture.
