About
The Alliance for Responsible Professional Licensing (ARPL) is a coalition of national organizations advocating for rigorous, competency-based licensure standards in highly technical professions. ARPL works with state policymakers, licensing boards and professional organizations to ensure licensure policies protect public health, safety and welfare while maintaining fairness, mobility and professional accountability. ARPL’s members include:
- American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
- American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
- American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)
- Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB)
- National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA)
- National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)
- National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)
- National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)
By providing research, resources and policy guidance, ARPL helps prevent the weakening of licensing standards and ensures that licensed professionals continue to serve the public with expertise, integrity and accountability.
Mission
ARPL’s mission is to protect the integrity of professional licensing and advocate for policies that maintain rigorous standards for education, experience and examination. By working with state policymakers, licensing boards and professional organizations, ARPL ensures that licensing laws continue to serve the public’s best interests while avoiding unnecessary barriers to entry or practice.
Areas of Collaboration
As a founding member of ARPL, CLARB plays a key role in advocating for responsible licensure standards for landscape architects and other highly technical professions. Through ARPL, we work alongside our partners to:
- Educate policymakers about the importance of licensure in protecting public health, safety and welfare
- Advocate for competency-based licensing policies that ensure fairness, mobility and public protection
- Defend against efforts to weaken licensing standards that could compromise professional accountability
- Provide research and resources to support regulatory boards in maintaining strong and defensible licensure systems
By working through ARPL, we ensure that landscape architecture licensure remains strong, consistent and recognized as an essential safeguard for the public and the environment.
