About Juwan, in his own words
“My long-term goals in landscape architecture are rooted in service, impact and legacy. I aim to grow into a leadership role within my design firm, where I can contribute to projects that are safe, inclusive, and meaningful. To me, leadership is less about position and more about influence — guiding with integrity, collaborating with others, and helping shape outcomes that reflect shared values. As a minority professional, I also see leadership as an opportunity to represent what is possible for those who may not often see themselves reflected in this field.
“Equally important to my vision is giving back through design. I am passionate about creating safe and enjoyable spaces in underserved communities. Too often, these communities are left out of conversations around design quality, public health and equitable access to green spaces. By investing in these areas, I want to create environments that affirm dignity, promote wellness, and foster a sense of belonging, spaces that signal to residents that they are valued and not forgotten.
“Finally, I am committed to inspiring the next generation of black and brown designers. Mentorship and visibility are essential to breaking cycles of underrepresentation. When younger designers see someone who shares their background thriving in this profession, it sparks belief in their own potential. By guiding and uplifting others, I hope to contribute to a cycle of empowerment that ensures minority designers are not only participants in shaping our built environment but also leaders who continue pushing the profession forward.”
