Nearly 200 regulatory professionals from the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands and CLARB partners gathered in Calgary, Alberta, Aug. 26-29 for the CLARB Annual Meeting 2026. Under the theme "Honoring Our Roots, Growing Our Future," attendees explored topics including enforcement modernization, licensure defense, artificial intelligence in practice and regulatory reform.
Here are three highlights from the week:
1. Environmental Scan
CLARB CSO Veronica Meadows led an interactive session examining how social, technological, economic and geopolitical forces are shaping the regulatory environment. After thoughtful discussion and small group work, members, volunteers and sponsors shared their perspectives to help inform CLARB's ongoing strategic work and prepare member boards for the future.
2. Designing the Eau Claire District
Rob Mikula of Crystal Fountains led attendees through Calgary's Eau Claire District, where a once-underused downtown space became a year-round public gathering place. He explained how a shift to a fog-based water feature improved safety, accessibility and water use.
3. CLARB Exam Success Grants announced
CLARB announced a $500,000 grant program, administered by the ASLA Fund, to help eligible L.A.R.E. candidates with financial need cover exam costs. Candidates can find eligibility requirements and application details on the ASLA Fund website.
