CLARB President Brian Verardo and CEO Matt Miller traveled to Wenzhou, China, in early April to attend the grand opening of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Pavilion at the International Garden Expo.

The IFLA Pavilion was designed to demonstrate to a public audience how landscape architecture can bring together urban growth and ecological health, a physical expression of IFLA's values and mission.

CLARB President Brian Verardo presents "Landscape Architecture as a Common Global Language" at the grand opening of the IFLA Pavilion at the International Garden Expo in April 2026.

Verardo presented to dignitaries from IFLA and the Chinese Society of Landscape Architects and led a public session titled "Landscape Architecture as a Common Global Language," which explored how the profession transcends borders and regulatory systems.

In closing remarks to that audience, Verardo spoke to CLARB's approach to international engagement.

"CLARB does not work globally to export a single model," he said. "Our role is to build bridges — between regulatory systems, professional cultures and shared challenges. Through partnerships with organizations like IFLA, global research on practice competencies and dialogue around credential evaluation, we participate in a two-way exchange: sharing experience while learning from others. In doing so, we strengthen regulation at home, support emerging systems abroad and reinforce a shared understanding of what it means to practice landscape architecture responsibly in a changing world."

The International Garden Expo in Wenzhou is among the world's prominent gatherings focused on landscape, horticulture and environmental design.
