Licensure is more than a credential, it’s a major professional milestone. A license marks the successful completion of your education, experience and examination requirements, and once granted, authorizes you to independently practice landscape architecture. Licensed professionals take on full responsibility for their designs and projects, contributing to safe, healthy and sustainable environments.

Once you’ve met your jurisdiction’s requirements, the next step is applying for licensure — and the CLARB Record simplifies that process for you.
Instead of submitting separate documentation to each licensure board, you can transmit your CLARB Record directly — saving time, reducing paperwork and ensuring boards receive consistent, accurate information.
Record Holders enjoy a wide range of year-round benefits, including exclusive access to CLARB resources, CLARB Certification and more — making the CLARB Record a valuable investment in the career of every landscape architect.

How to apply for licensure
Step One
Compile your CLARB Record
Your CLARB Record is a verified compilation of your education, experience, examination results and license history. To apply for licensure, make sure your Record is:
- Active (renewed annually)
- Complete (all sections are filled out)
- Verified (documents reviewed and confirmed by CLARB)
Step Two
Request transmittal
Once ready, request a transmittal to the licensure board in the jurisdiction where you're seeking licensure.
Most complete Records are transmitted within 5-7 business days (10-14 during peak periods). If you’re working with a tight timeline, our Support Team can expedite your request for an additional fee.
Step Three
Finalize your application with the licensure board
After transmitting your CLARB Record, please contact the licensure board to:
- Confirm that your Record has been received. You will receive an email from CLARB confirming that your transmittal has been sent to your licensing board.
- Complete any remaining application steps required by the board.
It is your responsibility to ensure all board-specific steps are completed.
As part of this process, your CLARB Record is automatically reviewed for CLARB Certification — a credential that confirms you meet or exceed CLARB’s Uniform Standard. Certification streamlines the review process, strengthens your application and demonstrates your qualifications across jurisdictions.
Step Four
Return to your CLARB Record
Once licensed, update your CLARB Record with your new registration information. Keeping your Record current ensures your information is always ready should you need to apply for licensure in another jurisdiction. Another Record perk: CLARB will also send you reminders when it’s time to renew your license!
