Complete Your Education

Step 1 in becoming a licensed landscape architect is completing your education. Every jurisdiction accepts an LAAB or LAAC accredited degree in landscape architecture. Learn more about education requirements in your jurisdiction.
Start the exam

Start the Exam

Step 2, you’ll need to take and pass a four-part examination, called the Landscape Architect Registration Examination” or L.A.R.E., in order to become licensed. The L.A.R.E. is a computerized exam that tests the knowledge and skills that that you will use every day as a landscape architect to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. While your jurisdiction issues licenses, you will take the exam through CLARB.
Gain experience

Gain Experience

Step 3 is gaining experience under supervision of a licensed landscape architect. Most jurisdictions allow you to begin the exam process while you are gaining the experience required for licensure. This allows you to complete steps 2 and 3 concurrently. Learn more about the experience requirements for licensure in your jurisdiction.
