CLARB designs and delivers programs and services that support licensure, professional mobility and public protection. From administering the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.) to providing verified records, certification and model policies, CLARB works with licensure boards and professionals to ensure landscape architects are qualified, competent and equipped to practice responsibly.

Ensuring competence to practice
The Landscape Architect Registration Examination
The L.A.R.E. is a critical step in the licensure process. This four-part, fully computerized exam tests the knowledge, skills and abilities required to practice landscape architecture without endangering public health, safety or welfare.
Developed and administered by CLARB, the L.A.R.E. is used across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands. While eligibility requirements vary by jurisdiction, the exam content, passing standards and administration dates are consistent—ensuring fairness and reliability for all candidates.
A verified path to licensure and professional growth
The CLARB Record
The CLARB Record is a secure, verified history of your education, experience, exam results and licensure status. It serves as a common application for licensure, consolidating your professional qualifications into a single, trusted source.
By reducing paperwork and simplifying the application process, the CLARB Record supports mobility and helps licensure boards evaluate credentials more efficiently. As a Record holder, you’ll also have access to CLARB’s team of licensure experts, who are available to guide you through licensure processes across jurisdictions.

Enhanced mobility to expand opportunities
CLARB Certification
CLARB Certification is a professional credential that verifies you meet or exceed the Uniform Licensure Standard for Landscape Architecture. It carries CLARB’s recommendation for licensure, providing regulatory boards with confidence in your qualifications. With CLARB Certification, your verified credentials help streamline licensure in new jurisdictions—saving time and increasing mobility.
Establishing a foundation for fair and consistent regulation
Model licensure policies and standards
CLARB develops model policies, regulations and practice standards that promote clarity, consistency and defensibility in the licensure process. In partnership with licensure boards, professionals and industry leaders, CLARB’s standards serve as a foundation for ensuring qualified landscape architects are prepared to protect public health, safety and welfare.
