Remote Proctor Pilot Program: August 2020 Administration

Exam Pilot

CLARB has been working diligently with Pearson VUE to develop the best possible solutions to accommodate all candidates who would like to write the L.A.R.E. and make it more accessible outside of traditional test centres.

Through these efforts and a gracious partnership with the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA), British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA), and Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA), we are pleased to offer Canadian residents the opportunity to be part of a remote proctor pilot program during the August L.A.R.E. administration. Through this pilot, you will be able to register and write the exam from your own home, any time day or night, using your own computer. A remote proctor will monitor your exam live through a video feed using advanced security protocols.

Questions about this announcement? View the recording from our Q&A webcast (recorded July 14, 2020).

This pilot program during the August L.A.R.E. administration will only be offered in Canada to residents seeking to write section 1 and/or section 2 between August 1-22. To register for this exciting opportunity, please register for the L.A.R.E. and click here to schedule your remote-proctored appointment.

If you have already registered for section 1 and/or section 2 and have an appointment scheduled in a test centre but would like to switch to a remote-proctored test within August 1-22, please cancel your original appointment with Pearson VUE and reschedule by selecting "at a home or office" when prompted in the scheduling process.

Please note: While you may see remote proctor appointments available outside of this window, this pilot is only being conducted August 1-22. Any appointments scheduled outside of this window will be cancelled.

Important differences to understand about this pilot program:

  • Only sections 1 and 2 are offered through this pilot. Sections 3 and 4 must be scheduled at a traditional test centre.
  • Unlike a traditional test centre, you will need to test your computer settings prior to your test date to ensure the exam and security protocols can be administered.
  • The pilot program will only be offered during August 1-22, but appointments in traditional test centres will be available through September 19 for the August administration.
  • Due to security protocols, once your exam time begins, breaks will not be permitted.
  • If you require special accommodations, you will need to schedule your exam at a traditional test centre.
  • This Pilot ensures your ability to take the L.A.R.E. in August as remote testing cannot be interrupted by unexpected test centre closures or reduced capacity due to social distancing requirements.

We are excited to offer you this opportunity and are available to answer any questions you may have. Please contact CLARB at info@clarb.org or 571-432-0332 Monday-Friday 9am-5pm EDT.
